March Update: Bathroom and Getaway Plans

Hi There!  Whew, it has been so long.  Whenever I don’t post a lot, there are just so many other things I’m working on, but as Arnold always says “I’ll be back”.

So here I am, and I thought I’d just post a little about what I’ve been up to.

Before I go on though, just wanted to mention that our thoughts are with the families, friends and loved ones of the people that tragically lost their lives in the GermanWings Airplane crash.  We are hearing, the co-pilot has done it on purpose.  So sad, what  makes someone do these things? Can life be that hopeless? For it must be hopelessness and nothing to believe in.  I’m praying for the families of all involved.  There are so many tragedies going on in the world today, but they don’t make this one any less painful. We need all the grace and love God has to offer us.

Well, Spring has sort of arrived, and although it’s still quite cold and you can’t go outside without a jacket yet, the sun has been peeking through more often now.  This week, I hung out with my nephew, who I was able to accompany to an apprenticeship interview.  Well, I waited in the car while he was interviewing, but it was fun hanging out with him afterward.  Also spent a girls day with my daughter-in-law and granddaughter Sweetpea, we checked out the newest styles at Ikea and had lunch.  I had so much fun spending time with them, and even Ikea is bearable when I’m there with those two sweeties!

I’ve made a collage of a few happenings this month.  Wow, a whole month and this is all I have to show for it, yikes!

Clockwise from the top left:

1) How I got rid of the wine stain:

Got a lovely red wine couch stain when I saw a spider crawl towards me. Doesn’t it look like a heart, or a chick?  So how did it I manage to remove it? I did what I often do, checked Pinterest. The lovely knowledgeable people at Pinterest suggested I pour salt over the stain and let it sit.  So first I doused it with a stain remover I had on hand from Aldi, then I added the salt and let it sit overnight.  Luckily I could take the cover off to wash it, and low and behold, it disappeared. 2) Planning a Denmark getaway

Well, I think I’m a Viking girl at heart, the northern  winds are calling once again and we are planning a weeks getaway.  ET is humoring me here because he would much rather spend his free time in warmer parts of the earth, but I’m sure he will enjoy it once we are there!

3) The pretzel and the trolley

Walking into town with my new little trolley, I stopped at the bakery and got a Russian pretzel, the only kind I really like.  Yes, I’m German and no, I don’t really care for salty pretzels.  Is that an oxymoron?

Oh yes, the trolley, I almost forgot.  I went to a second-hand market a few weekends ago and got a trolley for shopping.  Since I don’t have my own car and I don’t want to drive ET to work more than once a week (time/gas), I thought it was a good idea to have one when I walk into town, then I can get groceries without having to schlepp heavy bags.  I’ve done it once and it was interesting, the townspeople can hear me coming from far off…I’m going to be known as ‘the old lady that walks around with her trolley’, lol!

4) Learning Inkscape

I’ve been playing around with different programs.  This ‘hope’ was done in Inkscape and I learned how to make a swirl, woohoo.

Working with Inkscape is turning out to be a lot of fun.  I’ve done a few things on there that I don’t want to show just yet, but let me tell you, you can spend hours making swooshes and swirls, I have to pace my time on there because ‘ain’t nobody got time for that’!

5)  Bathroom Plans

Two of my bathroom reno designs done in SketchUp, another program I’m just starting to learn.

We are in the process of planning our bathroom renovation.  This is going to be a biggie.  It will involve very much dirt, dust and heavy tools.  The existing tiles need to be removed, new plumbing and all the other stuff.  Our bathroom is only a few square feet, so it’s a real challenge planning it and we have to fit a sink, toilet and shower in there somewhere.  Also there is a part that cannot be used because these late 50’s row-houses just have a weird design.  Every centimeter of space was accounted for and there is no leeway. Here are some pics of the plans I’ve drawn in SketchUp so far.

ET and I are both leaning towards the second one, the corner solution.  Isn’t it nice when you don’t have to compromise and both are on the same page?  Sometimes (once in a blue moon) it even works out so smoothly. :)
I will try to keep you posted on the bathroom reno.

6) Just some pics taken during a morning walk.

I love it when the sun is out…

Wishing you and yours a blessed weekend, till next time!
